Gurdas Maan was born in Giddarbaha of Muktsar, Punjab to the Parents Gurdev Singh and Tej Kaur. His schooling was done by Govn. School of Giddarbaha. Music was in his blood from childhood. He participates in various musical activities during his school time. 

After the schooling was done, His parents shifted him to Patiala for further studies, where he joined the National Sports Institute and done masters in physical education. After Mastering, He was all set to start his career as Sports Coach. He got many medals & awards for his sports activities. Maan was also a black belt in Judo. Along with sports, He showed up his musical activities in many youth festivals & functions and won numerous awards. At an event, Gurdas sings the song Dil Da Mamla Hai, producer of Jalandhar Doordarshan was there and listened to him. He proposed to record this song, Gurdas accepted the offer and recorded this song. This song was a massive hit within a very short period of time and gives the Gurdas Maan instant popularity. 

After the song Dil Da Mamla Hai, Gurdas Maan recorded many songs and albums and got a great response from the audience. Some of his Songs and Albums are Chakar, Wah Ni Jwaniye, Chugliyaan, Dil Hona Chahida Jawaan, Jadugariya, Ishq Da Gidha, Panjeeri, Heer, Valaitan, Boot Polishan, Jogiya, Roti, Punjab, etc. Along with his singing, He is a very good actor too. He has done a number of Punjabi movies. Some of his movies are Waris Shah- Ishq Da Waaris, Shaheed- e- Mohabbat, Des Hoya Pardes, Long Da Lishkara, Shaheed Udam Singh, Yaariyaan, Sukhmani, Nankana, etc.

His super hit song Apna Punjab Howe grabbed so many awards like Best Song of the Year, Best Album and Best International Artist Award from Birmingham, UK. In 2005, Gurdas Maan was honored by President of India with The National Fim Award. His Album Boot Polishan won the Best International Album Award from UK Asian Music Awards. He has sung with Diljit Dosanjh at MTV Studio. Ki Banu Dunia Da was the song that was sung together by both stars. 

Gurdas Maan was suffered through some serious mishappenings in his life. In 2001, Near Rupnagar, He met with an accident and got some minor injuries. His driver was found dead by this accident. This happening effects Mann deeply and afterward he dedicates a song Sawaari to his driver Tejpal. In 2007, Near Karnal, Haryana, his car was hit by a truck. He got some minor injuries and his driver got major injuries. 

Gurdas Maan is a Devotee to the Dera Baba Murad Shah, Nakodar. He performs every year in the month of May there. He is the pure solo artist and he refused many offers of duet singing. Along with Singing in the Punjabi Language, He has sung some songs in Hindi, Rajasthani, Haryanvi, Bengali languages too. He has sung many songs in Bollywood Film Industry too as a Playback Singer.
